MIDS: The digitisation standard for Natural Science collections
نویسندگان
چکیده
The digitisation standard, MIDS (Minimum Information about a Digital Specimen), has been developed to provide clear definition for the level of specimens held in natural science collections. standard comprises three levels digitisation: Level 1 (Basic) is equivalent virtual cabinet or drawer collection; 2 (Regular) provides information needed most research; 3 (Extended) all on specimen itself as well links associated resources. A pre-digitisation 0 (Bare) allows citation and attachment additional information. through collaboration people representing digitisation, curation, data management, software development research. coordinated within TDWG Task Group. aim develop that will fulfill needs those managing programmes (e.g., estimating costs, priorities) users digitised informing potential collection’s richness).

Organising the Digitisation of Collections at a National or International Level: Models for Research Library Development
Libraries today, amongst other research institutions, are solicited more and more to take part in programmes of digitisation of their collections. Apart from the way these programmes affect the public image of the institution and the prestige that is to be gained, participating in these programmes leads us to consider not only technical decisions but above all long term strategic choices. I hav...

The paper presents in brief a project aimed at the development of a methodology and corresponding software tools intended for building of proper environments giving up means for semantics oriented, web-based access to heterogeneous multilingual archival collections. Some widespread international encoding standards for archival description and for representation of structured electronic versions...
متن کاملData concepts and their relevance for data capture in large scale digitisation of biological collections
Logistically, the data associated with biological collections can be divided into three main categories for digitisation: i) Label Data: the data appearing on the specimen on a label or annotation; ii) Curatorial Data: the data appearing on containers, boxes, cabinets and folders which hold the collections; iii) Supplementary Data: the data held separately from the collections in indices, archi...
متن کاملImage based Digitisation of Entomology Collections: Leveraging volunteers to increase digitization capacity
In 2010, the Australian Museum commenced a project to explore and develop ways for engaging volunteers to increase the rate of digitising natural history collections. The focus was on methods for image-based digitising of dry pinned entomology collections. With support from the Atlas of Living Australia, the Australian Museum developed a team of volunteers, training materials and processes and ...

On a 3-dimensional Lorentzian manifold, the sectional curvature function at any point may be represented as a rational function (quotient of two quadratics) on the real projective plane [2]. (More generally, the sectional curvature at a point of any pseudoRiemannian n-manifold may be represented as a rational function on the Grassmann variety of planes in n-space.) Using this representation, Be...
